ABOUT.
Raina Thomson, a Canberra-based artist, graduated from the Australian National University with a degree in painting. Now residing in Newcastle, Thomson's practice is deeply rooted in Abstract-Expressionism. Through her masterful use of materials, texture, and gesture, she translates her cultural background and personal experiences into visually compelling works.
As a first-generation Australian of Indian heritage, Thomson's art explores the complexities of identity, the mind-body connection, and the concept of unconscious predestination. Her work aims to evoke a sense of connection and provide a space for navigating and breaking down paradoxes within these intersecting identities.
